Community Action Against Homophobia (CAAH) will hold a speak-out at Fair Day - Sunday 18th February at 1pm. CAAH will ask all up-coming candidates in the March state elections to speak at the event about how they will campaign for same-sex equality. Fair Day is an annual picnic in the park event within the month of Mardi Gras.

Simon Biber, CAAH Co-Convenor said "An estimated 75,000 lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) and their friends will be at Fair Day. When Ruddock quashed the ACT Civil Partnerships Bill this was also homophobic assault on democracy. With Howard on an anti-queer rampage, we have a perfect opportunity to hear about how politicians are going to fight for our rights. How will they help the fight for adoption rights, for civil unions, for marriage? For genuine equality?"

Shelly Dahl, co-queer officer at the University of Western Sydney Students' Association and CAAH Secretary said "We will invite groups as well - the NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Get Up, Amnesty International to speak at this event. We want to hear from a range of groups and political parties about how they will help arrest this assault. Howard's plans to ban same-sex adoption under bilateral and multilateral agreements, ie. foreign children, is now hurting all children around the world. Queer identifying people are welcome to come and visit, but the moment they step onto our shores, their children will be ripped away from them. Queer and straight allies will not stand for this."

CAAH will hold its speak out at 1pm outside its stall on Fair Day. Call Simon B 0425 208 363 or Shelly D 0418 621 769 for more info.
